Authenticator Exporter Is Now on the App Store

Authenticator Exporter is now on the App Store, bringing iPhone users the same tool Android users have had since May’s Google Play launch: a way to decode, back up, and re-export Google Authenticator’s 2FA accounts.

Same app, same guarantees

Nothing about the core experience changes between platforms. Everything still runs entirely on-device — scanning, decoding, and storage all happen locally, with account metadata in SQLite and secret keys in the platform secure enclave (iOS Keychain on iPhone). No account, no cloud, no analytics, no telemetry. If your subscription lapses, your already-imported accounts stay right where they are.

Bulk export vs. single-account export

One distinction worth calling out, since it affects who you can restore to: re-exporting an entire imported batch uses Google Authenticator’s otpauth-migration:// format, which only apps that specifically support that format can read — Google Authenticator itself, Aegis, 2FAS, and a handful of others. But exporting a single account works differently: it uses the plain otpauth:// code and QR format that virtually every website and authenticator app already uses to enroll a new 2FA account, so a single-account export can be scanned into literally any authenticator app, not just ones that understand Google’s migration format. If you only need to move a handful of accounts, single-account export is the more portable option.

Requirements

Authenticator Exporter requires iOS 16 or later, or Android 8.0 (API 26) or later. Importing new accounts needs an active subscription ($3.99/month or $24.99/year, 3-day free trial); browsing, copying, and exporting are free on both platforms.
